The Student Affairs Assessment Leaders (SAAL) Professional Development Committee wants to inform you about their next SAAL Structured Conversation scheduled titled “unpacking & resisting neoliberalism in student affairs assessment” on Wednesday, April 1 from 1:00pm-2:00pm EST.
As student affairs becomes assessment-savvy, our collective focus (foci?) is taken away from humans, away from emotional development. Instead, we use specific data points to observe and measure cognitive abilities as we are taught to assess by the textbook and testing industry. We are encouraged to be efficient. We are told to be data-driven. What does that really mean? Are we meeting the needs of people (the helpers) that chose to enter our profession? Are we assessing evidence to benefit our students?
