- What trends are shaping assessment and improvement of learning in higher education today? What do these trends tell us about the educational values of our internal and external stakeholders? This webinar considers these questions and shares ten “meta-trends” in assessment identified in our edited volume, Trends in Assessment: Ideas, Opportunities, and Issues for Higher Education (Stylus, 2019), which draws on work presented at the Assessment Institute in Indianapolis (which we direct) as well as the broader assessment literature.
- Spotlighting an ongoing shift from the “teaching paradigm” to the “learning paradigm,” we argue that today’s assessment trends reflect growing emphases on holistic student development and increasing use of authentic assessment approaches that illuminate why and how, as well as what, students learn.
- We also share perspectives on how COVID-19 is affecting our view of these assessment trends, including implications for students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
